I sometimes think that when people are fired, they tend to feel bad about themselves. But the reality of that is to think of yourself as being retired. Especially if you have received a payout, you are retired, okay, sis.
The definition of retired
“having left one’s job and ceased to work.“
“withdraw to or from a particular place.“
Of course, this is only to help take the sting out of your situation, as being fired is terrible for morale. It doesn’t make you feel good about yourself; it doesn’t matter if the job was crappy or not. But all bad things must come to an end, and so this is your time to re-invent yourself. Starting with seeing the firing as retirement from that position to something better and more exciting. This will help you when you are job searching and need a confidence boost. Alternatively, you never want to tell an employer that you were fired. You are better of saying that you left for salary reasons, lack of resources, no benefits, company transitions, company buyout, the pandemic. I mean anything except being fired.
Now since you have been retired and not fired, we are replacing those words which you will come to understand if you have ever taken treatment at Queen Hypnosis. We are all about the change; we are all about making positive words influence our actions. I also released a series on https://anchor.fm/k-chynn/episodes/FIRED-ep4rto where you can hear me talk in-depth about being fired. This includes the embarrassment and how I got over it.
Words are so important, and what you say to yourself is more important than what anyone says about you. However, sometimes when people are fired, the person doing the firing decides not just to crush you but also to demolish your self-esteem. However, you have a choice; usually, they will give you a reason or ask if you would like more info on why you are losing your position. This is where I hold out the STOP sign. Do not allow the people firing you to tell you how you did not do your job correctly. As much as I believe in constructive criticism, this is not the time to ask for that when you’re on the chopping block. If they wanted to be helpful, you would have received this constructive nugget before the firing. So spare yourself the emotional baggage, take your letter and leave. I realize that change is hard, but change is necessary for growth. I get that times are tough economically, and also, perhaps age, gender and lifestyle make this even more compounding. However, once you are fired, there is nothing that you can do other than leave with your pride and head held high.
Now, if you have been fortunate enough to be paid out, you have a little time before you need to go and look for work if that is what you want to do. On the other hand, now is your time if that is not what you want to do and decide to start a business. At least take five days to yourself to look at the things that are important to you. Now is the time to go within yourself and figure out what you want to do and what mark you will leave on this world. Five days is a good enough amount of time to detox from the work environment and process your emotions.
However, if you are unfortunate enough not to have been paid out of your retirement, this section is for you. Money is always necessary; it doesn’t matter what or who you are, and if you need another job to supplement your income, you need to start searching immediately here. However, You cannot get caught up in your search. In other words, please do not search for a job in desperation or lack. Just because you have been fired (but you know we’re using the word retired), it doesn’t mean that you are less than. This is a tricky concept for people to try to understand because to be “Retired,” can feel like you have been denied something or that you have been rejected, and this will have you taking it personally, and in return, this will make your job process a lot more arduous than it needs to be.
This means that it will be tough for you to find work because you are desperate for work. Even worse, you will not be able to find a job and what you’re looking for, and you’ll accept anything. But please don’t ever accept anything because that is not what you’re about. You never want to compromise yourself just because, at the moment, your money might be short, because surprisingly, money gets shorter when you work a lousy job with little pay, and that makes you feel bad.
